ACT Reviews 2022-2023 Season

Cameron had that cheekiness about him that instantly made us, the audience, feel at ease. Man (Ian Chatterton) came onto the scene and instantly started to put the young couple on edge. Although we didn’t know it at the time, he was putting a wedge between the two lovebirds but you couldn’t tell why. The cherry on the top of this production was a moment between Ian and Charlotte, as “Man” was trying to convince Jamie and Abby that he was, in fact, Jamie, but from the future. Ian and Charlotte managed to replicate the chemistry that the younger couple had at the beginning of the production. It made me feel all gooey inside, as we realised, along with Charlotte’s character, he was in fact Jamie from the future. Stella Hutchinson entered the stage just before the curtain came down on act one, and boy, she came to fix what man had come to break. You could tell as she entered that the fun was just about to start, and we weren’t wrong. The comedy aspect of this production hit another level from this moment. Again, the relationship of Abbey and “Woman” added another layer of mystery. Once leaving DLT this evening, I could not tell enough people how wonderful this play was. I am so glad I managed to see this production and I hope to see this play performed more within local theatres. Producing unknown plays can sometimes be a risk for amateur theatre and professional companies alike. But this production for “Now and Then” went down a treat. Leaving the theatre after this production it was lovely to hear fellow audience members vocalising how much they enjoyed this production.
