ACT Reviews 2022-2023 Season

The costumes were wonderful and in keeping with the characters and time period. Perhaps some more changes to show the passage of time would have been nice – Miss Shepherd's clothes getting shabbier and more stained and James's Alan having some more suit changes for example, maybe ending with him in a similar suit to Alan's Alan to show that they are now closer in age. However, this is just an idea and as I was not involved in the production I cannot say whether it would have been feasible in the time between exits and entrances. Overall, a great job as always done by the wardrobe team of Madeline Masters, Carol Crook, Kathryn Lewis and Anne Dunlop. Finally, mentions must go to Keith Pounder and Ken Horsefield who ably steered and brought together this whole brilliant production as Production Managers, and Lauren Stirzaker-Jackson and the rest of the publicity team for truly whetting everyone's appetites. There are some wonderful production photos on Facebook that will no doubt have drawn in the audiences – even though when I went it was midweek and opening night the auditorium was still nearly full, which was lovely to see. The programme (created by Nico Gatulescu and Beverley McKiernan) contained a very informative introduction by director Richard Sanderson, which I enjoyed reading, and I also liked the use of Marigold Yellow throughout. I always like it when programmes contain information about the cast members too, which this programme didn't, but I appreciate that with the amount of space available and the usual sizes of the casts in the Garrick's productions this is often not possible. Thank you to everyone involved for another very enjoyable evening spent at the Youth Theatre, as always, I am looking forward to coming back!
