ACT Reviews 2022-2023 Season

believable as well as humorous. Annabelle Taylor as Caroline Fitzwarren was well cast. Beautiful and elegant it was no surprise that her character was pursued by not only Dick, but Idle Jack as well. She sang all her songs beautifully, a particular highlight being ‘500 Miles’. Chris Addington, as Sarah, the Cook, was hysterical. I loved the constant gender fluidity in his voice with every line showed good timing. Chris is a pleasure to watch because, not only is he hilarious, but he also is vocally excellent. He was able to sing each of his songs well and yet still managed to make them silly and fun. Idle Jack (played by Michael Thompson) was the star of the show. He did not waste a moment on stage and was always in character, acting silly and adorable, but without drawing focus from other principals. He was drunk on more than one occasion in the show, and these were my favourite moments. He had the ability to win over the hearts of the audience, despite his character making a few questionable decisions throughout. Michael’s comedy moments were well executed, a highlight being the scene in which he pretended to use stairs, an escalator and then a ‘high speed’ lift to retrieve things from a cellar. I am sure there wasn’t a single member of the audience
