THE TREE TOWNS IN CONCERT Musical Director for the evening: David Kay Pianist: Nicola White Narrator: Irene Smith The Tree Towns This annual event is a firm favourite with their audience and can guarantee good attendance and an evening of the best in choral singing. Traditionally staged the company looked professional in their black and white outfits, and with all music in society folders. There was an additional rostrum for solo presentation. Twenty-one numbers were presented ranging from Disney favourites to Leonard Cohen’s, “Hallelujah”. All the arrangements were so good and as a result they brought out the best of the voices. We had an M.D, for the evening but unfortunately no information about who rehearsed the concert. A lot of effort had gone into preparing the musical gala. The 40 strong company was accompanied by Nicola White whose playing deserved a solo spot. To take the audience through the musical miscellany they were treated to background information or sometimes just a link related by Irene Smith. Irene’s smile and pleasing manner added to the evening’s enjoyment. In the first set there were many highlights; Vivaldi’s “Gloria”, and from Karl Jenkins “Songs of Sanctuary”. The company displayed vocal dynamics receiving generous applause. Ken Rees’s solo “Higher Than a Hawk” was well received. The second set programme concentrated on a lighter side of music
